Wardell Emergency Flood Accommodation Project

Pressure Sewer | 29 Nov 2022

As part of flood recovery efforts in the Lismore area, Aquatec partnered with Hutchinson Builders to design and construct the wastewater services for their new modular housing facility in Wardell, NSW.

The devastating floods that engulfed the Northern Rivers during February and March 2022 displaced thousands of people, many of whom were still living in emergency accommodation such as tents or caravans some months after the flood events.

As part of an $80M project, Hutchies constructed over 730 new modular units at the Wardell Sports and Recreation Club to provide semi-temporary housing for nearly 300 families.

With no existing infrastructure on the site, Planit Consulting were engaged to provide the civil engineering design for the new dwellings. Aquatec were approached to evaluate the options for the wastewater component, and given the saturated ground conditions and the urgent timeframes, it was determined that a pressure sewer system was the only feasible option.

Our entire scope was completed in less than 10 weeks, from design and modelling of the sewer network through to manufacture, supply and delivery of the 14 x customised fibreglass sewer pump stations and associated reticulation, being installed on site by Retz Plumbing. This demonstrates Aquatec’s promise to provide an end-to-end solution for our clients.

“This was a great team effort and a great outcome for the client. With such short time frames we couldn’t have done without the collaboration, knowledge and manufacturing capability and capacity of Aquatec.”
