Aquatec boosts recycled water capacity at Mansfield Wastewater Management Facility

Operated by Goulburn Valley Water, the Mansfield Wastewater Management Facility (WMF) faced increasing pressure from population growth, spurring the need for significant upgrades to manage higher wastewater volumes and maximise the beneficial reuse of water resources.

Aquatec partnered with the selected contractor, Max Bright, to design, construct, and commission the water storage and irrigation pump station to enhance the availability of recycled water for irrigation as part of Goulburn Valley Water’s on-site farming operations.

Enhanced storage capacity secures sustainable reuse of treated wastewater

The Mansfield WMF was upgraded through the construction of a 250‑megalitre winter storage lagoon, which resulted in doubling its capacity for the retention of treated effluent. This increased storage capability allows the facility to securely hold water during periods of low irrigation demand or wet weather, ensuring that high-quality recycled water can be made available for beneficial reuse when required.

An integral component of the upgrade was the addition of an irrigation pump station, which was designed, delivered, installed, and commissioned by Aquatec. Leveraging our end-to-end project methodology and extensive technical expertise, we provided a highly reliable and efficient system that optimises water distribution, supports long-term operational performance, and maximises the beneficial reuse of treated wastewater.

Our technical solution included:

  • Detailed design of the booster pump system and irrigation pump station for optimal hydraulic performance.
  • High-efficiency variable-speed booster pump system designed to adapt to fluctuating demand.
  • Fully integrated switchboard for flow and pressure control.
  • Actuated control valves, enabling automated flow modulation and efficient water distribution.
  • Advanced level sensing technology for real-time monitoring and system stability.

A scalable and robust system, delivering community and environmental benefits

The upgraded system now enables the consistent and reliable delivery of recycled water to key community users, including the Mansfield Golf Club, local agricultural enterprises, and a public standpipe that provides broader municipal access.

By expanding the availability of recycled water, the facility reduces demand on potable water supplies while at the same time supporting local food production, recreation, and municipal services.

Other benefits of the project:

  • reduced the likelihood of emergency overflow events, protecting local catchments
  • balanced seasonal variability ensures reliable availability for critical users.
  • alignment with circular economy principles
  • providing recreational and amenity value

The upgraded infrastructure at the MansfieldWMF represents a strategic investment in regional resilience, supporting sustainable resource management and long-term community wellbeing.
